Author: Grace Durie

Who are Europe’s 50 most powerful digital financial services influencers?

It has been with great anticipation that we have observed the compilation of this list of the most important and influential figures within digital financial services and it is with great excitement that we present it to the wider community… Yes that’s right, the moment has come, the Power 50 and the Rising Stars have been revealed!

Our panel of judges have used all of their considerable industry expertise to whittle down a list of over 200 names to the top 50 innovators and influencers.

Alongside these 50 names are the Rising Stars, 5 individuals under the age of 40 who are transforming financial services and changing the way that firms conduct their business.

The Top 50 innovators and influencers in Digital Finance

The Power 50 reflects a wide variety of individuals that have pioneered the development of the digital side of the financial services sector, from a wide array of countries throughout Europe.

Established players in banking

New facets of established players within the finance industry have been recognised. For example Darren Foulds, Director of Mobile and Shadman Zafar, Chief Digital Officer at Barclays have proven that a bank of many years standing may pursue new and innovative channels with a high degree of success. Antoine Pichot, Head of Digital Banking and Multichannel distribution has also demonstrated this at Société Générale.

Reshaping the banking industry

We are also honouring new generation of financial services institutions who are reshaping the traditional banking model. Here we look to the likes of Grant Bourbousson, the Digital Banking Director at Tesco: a new financial services institution, born out of one of the UK’s most well-known supermarket chains, that is changing the way UK consumers look at their banks. Also here we must mention Matthais Kröner, whose exclusively online Fidor Bank has an ever growing number of customers, who are willing to embrace an exclusively digital bank.

Startup companies in digital banking

Alongside the banks, we have included start-up companies, who are revolutionising digital financial spheres. Here we recognised the likes of Jacob De Geer, the Founder and CEO of iZettle, who have produced a card reader for transactions using your mobile phone.

Analyst houses

Finally we come the analyst houses, whose contribution towards identifying trends and identifying the digital needs of the financial services industry is rapidly helping drive change and innovation; Piercarlo Gera, Global MD of Financial services at Accenture is one of those.

We also have the regulatory bodies, who are helping change the ethos of the community at large, with Antony Elliot, Chief Executive of The Fairbanking Foundation, who is working with the banking community to promote a fairer and more ethical code of practice and digital is playing a key role.
